Jerusalem, 15/7/2016 : The Society’s branch in occupied Jerusalem provided around-the-clock medical and emergency services to hundreds of Muslim worshippers at Al Aqsa Mosque during the holy month of Ramadan. These exceptional efforts took place despite the regular harassment suffered at the hands of Israeli occupation soldiers.

Two field clinics were set up by the branch, one at Al Aqsa boys’ school near Lions’ Gate and the other on the Dome of the Rock esplanade. Twelve ambulances and eighty volunteers assisted PRCS’ medical teams and nurses.

Similar services were also provided in other areas in and around Jerusalem, including areas walled off by the Wall of Separation. In total, EMS centres operated by the branch responded to 1102 emergencies, referring 112 patients to hospitals. Most patients suffered from hypoglycaemia, hypertension, sunstrokes, food poisoning and breathing difficulties.

PRCS’ teams and volunteers were harassed in the line of duty by Israeli occupation soldiers who prevented ambulances from reaching patients near Damascus Gate and Herod’s Gate. Ambulances were also prevented from accessing Lions’ Gate in order to transport patients from the two mobile clinics to the Society’s Hospital and Al Makassed Hospital in Jerusalem.

End.
